Last night I couldn’t go to sleep so I thought I’d take a trip.
I’d had way too much cola, and broccoli with onion dip.
It had been quite a while since I had travelled in my special chair.
Now I’ve got to just get going, on account of getting there!

I turned the key to start it up but suddenly closed my eyes.
I knew not where I’d end up, it’s more fun to be surprised!
When the clanking and the shaking stopped I had to look around.
I exited my time machine and planted my feet on firm ground.

I picked up a number of smooth stones, and in my pocket they did go.
I don’t usually collect them, but they had a brilliant glow.
Across a field I saw someone who was running straight toward me.
As that man got even closer, I saw a giant if you can believe!

Right then a voice from my behind did grab my own attention.
I saw a lad come up to me with an ancient but then new invention.
“Who comes to fight me here today,” bellowed the giant’s voice out loud?
“Tis I the servant of the Lord,” said the young lad from a crowd!

“My name is Dave I have no stones, and I thought I’d left them here!”
Then straight out from my pockets, in his hands I placed them there.
Five stones so smooth and perfect weight, they were more like jewels to me.
Dave thanked me as he took them and advised that I should leave!

However as I recognized what was taking place this day.
I was transfixed and couldn’t move, I knew I had to stay!
With one stone in the slingshot, Dave’s hand spun all around.
Then just as fast as lightning Goliath lay on the ground.

The ground appeared to rumble, as that giant hit the turf.
As David stood beside him, I was reminded of a smurf.
He raised his sword to take the head of the enemies champion,
To prove to all the others, just how the Master get’s things done!

Little David has been my hero, for as long as I have lived.
I’ll tell this story everywhere, it’s the least thing I can give.
When I get home I think it’s time my time machine’s retired.
Unless of course some readers say, there’s more that they desire!

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
