Array ( [sid] => 170239 [catid] => 1 [aid] => mick [title] => Indulging in Melancholy [time] => 2012-01-17 05:40:15 [hometext] => This poem catches a glimps of how I felt in between the cap of two cultures as a Chinese American. [bodytext] => Just as the smoke rising freely above these cigarettes

Or watching the sun dimming while it sets

Just as a leaf enjoying its fall from that tree

Or watching the bird in that cage wanting to be free

While drifting farther away from home on this ferry

Not knowing what the future holds after that last glass of sherry

Praying at least this soul underneath is still holy

A time like this, I’m indulging in the bitter sweetness of melancholy.

It isn’t sadness or depression at this stage

Nor manic, irrational, impulsive rage

Although sour in the beginning, the sensations of calmness follow

To a dimension of complexity and yet hollow

It’s a time like this when you are laying in between the intangible and flesh that unwillingly you are indulging in melancholy.

Indulging in melancholy was obviously the right canvass in order for the artist to paint a definitive picture of a state of complexity before,as with the storm, the calm.

Sherry. What a beautiful first
and last name you have. I want
to tell you that you are not a Chinese
American any longer. You are an
American, plain and simple. However,
you are of a proud Chinese heritage,
and you should be. Your ancestors
are honorable people. Every American
has a bloodline from somewhere else.
Mine is Scotland. But I never call
myself Scottish American even though
the Great Poet Robt Burns is in my family
tree. I am an American. And so my friend
are you! Blessings, Robert Edgar Burns (Rob)
