to believe in You, for
if You don't exist I stand
alone in a world of evil.
My belief in You is not threatened
by non-believers but instead by
the all-knowing hypocrits who pretend
to be temples where You dwell
assuming the right to do your tasks
of judging and exacting revenge,
people who interpret words
from a bible that does not bare
your signature but gives power
to self proclaimed prophets.
God, can I believe in You and not
the stories written and spoken;
tales of fire and flood, pillars of salt,
the ruthless testing of Job, a burning bush
asking a father to do the unthinkable.
You are, again if You do exist,
a mystery beyond the comprehension
understanding of a frail minded mankind
To stand by and allow men to
slaughter each other in Your name
and not strike down the phony evangelists
who use You and Your threat of hell
to extract riches from the pockets
of believers seeking truth baffles me,
as much as the fact that "evil" had to be
a concept in Your mind before becoming
a reality on earth. [comments] => 2 [counter] => 94 [topic] => 11 [informant] => maverick47 [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 0 [ratings] => 0 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => ChristianPoetry )

I liked it. It was very inspiring, as many good poems and lyrics about religion are. Good bible references too.
