This write will not be fiction,
I swear it all is true.
If you’d like some Figgy Pudding,
Here’s all you have to do!

Find a half cup (one stick) of butter,
Then from the cooler grab two large eggs.
Now get a cup of molasses,
And two cups dried figs I say!

Remove the stems and then you can
Chop the figs up very fine.
Along with one half teaspoon grated lemon peel,
Then one cup buttermilk will be divine.

Chop a half cup of some walnuts.
You’ll need two and a half cups all purpose flour.
One half teaspoon baking soda
And two teaspoons baking powder.

You’ll need one teaspoon of regular salt,
Unless you like some other fancy brand.
One quarter teaspoon ground nutmeg,
One half teaspoon ground cinnamon.

Then you’ll need a garnish.
On mine I love whipped cream.
It’s even good on top of the coffee,
You’ll think you are living in a dream!

Prepare in an electric mixer.
Cream the butter till it’s fluffy smooth.
Add the eggs and molasses while mixing,
Sing a song while you’re in the “Groove!”

Next add the buttermilk and the walnuts.
Follow with figs and lemon peel.
Blend these for one minute,
This is your show, no one else can steal.

Add the rest of the dry ingredients.
Incorporate it all into this blend.
Grease and flour an eight by four inch souffle pan,
Then pour the batter in there if you can.

Bake in an oven set for three twenty five,
And for one hour you can walk away.
Don’t forget to set your timer,
For smoke stays in curtains many days.

Spoon the pudding out onto plates now,
Or cut it into wedges in the pan.
Garnish this with whipped cream we all love.
The recipe makes twelve servings my dear ma’am!
