But I can't think of one single rhyme
I know what I want my words to say
My mind blanks out, no ideas, no way

I visualize Christmas from my youthful years
All I conjour up are holidays spent in fear
My parents weren't exactly the toy buying kind
They preferred their beer and bottled wine

Occasionally, a neighbor would take pity on us
A baby doll for me, my brother a fire truck
I have no fond memories of a beautiful Christmas tree
No decorations, no turkey dinner, no Santa's knee

When I grew to be one of the adults with the chance
To teach my children to do the Christmas dance
I made sure their eyes only beheld the true magic light
The joy, love, toys, all tis the wonder of Christmas night

Year after year, I can still smell the new baby dolls
Hear the clank of the trucks as they hit the walls
Remember the joy of their little faces as they ran
To see what Santa brought them, that magic man

Now I'm the grandma, and time has stood still
I dream of the magic, of all God's good will
I'll keep this wonderful time as before
Show them the real reason for the gifts and more

Merry Christmas words have been found after all
I can hang the decorations on the tree and wall
I will watch with wonder as each face does glow
As we share the sight of this wonderful Christmas show [comments] => 2 [counter] => 116 [topic] => 18 [informant] => dvtpdw [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 0 [ratings] => 0 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => Holiday Poetry )

it's never too late for a happy childhood - even if it is lived through our kids. Hang on to those memories - they are precious.
