My body rebelled against itself, and turned the lock
My days were spent in seconds of pain and despair
I was mired in the anguish, couldn't find fresh air

Doctors would promise to aid and cure all my ills
They gave green, white, purple, pretty little pills
My human size grew with each dose swallowed
My girth caused my gait to wallow and wallow

The specter of death came to my window thrice
I wondered when I would lose the roll of the dice
But each time I managed to call to God above
He blocked the daggar, let me relish in His love

It's been a year since I woke from that dark sleep
I wake each day, so clear, I want to cry and weep
I see the world so rosy now, my life has some weight
I know my path now is strong and straight

At least, that's what I thought until yesterday
Now my vision has gone far astray
Due to people I tried to let back into my life
To whom I tried to make amends for any strife

They have never changed, but I had or tried
They prefer the hate, the meanness, the lies
I have found that I no longer can bear this mess
I don't want to fail this one last test

Without much fanfare, I've made my choice
I'm going back to another box with less noise
I'll keep my little family, husband, grandson, around
But from the rest, I'll set myself free, no steel bounds

I do have a few friends who understand this ole fool
I will hope and pray I can keep those jewels
But to the rest who only want what I can't give
Go on without me, on with the life you want to live [comments] => 3 [counter] => 126 [topic] => 48 [informant] => dvtpdw [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 0 [ratings] => 0 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => EmotionalPoetry )
