Woebegone street

anguished

Along the road of despair,
I hear the painful screams of misery
Emanating from this plagued race
Cursed with a wretched disease
That causes pessimism and sorrow
And on the other side of the road
I see their desperate companions
Mourning the content people they used to know
But there’s nothing they can do to cure them
They just watch them as they suffer,
A despondent sigh draws from my mouth
And I turn my back on the woebegone street
Just like the rest of society has done
