New Day

............................................
"Eternal nothingness is fine if you
happen to be dressed for it."
-Woody Allen

............................................

There is a stillness to this air,
Like a whisper
Far, far off
Over unseen hills
And through tree's
That have yet
To notice
Today is a
New Day.

Yesterday's Tomorrow,
Is just another day,
Bright, dark
And empty
Yet somehow alive,
Somehow still
Existing
In this bitter,
Unkind place,
Where,
Like a Phoenix,
Another unfortunate soul
Has risen from the ashes
Of his yesterday
And has foolishly
Sought to
Explore
This new,
Old world.
To make this one
Moment in time
His...

A light frost hangs
On the manicured lawn
And the withering
Black-Eyed Susan's
and Marigold,
And the
Bright, unwithered golden
Chrysanthemum
Bite back against
A new breeze,
One that carries with it
A scent of hickory,
Of a coldness
Warmed
By fire.
But I feel the cold,
Only the cold.

When tomorrow is today,
I should choose to sleep,
To remain unaffected
By the rising of the sun,
Or the setting of the moon.
To disappear inside that darkened vault
Of my mind
To become less of the shadow
That I am,
And deny I exist at all.

What is today
But another yesterday,
An endless looping
Void of
Nothingness.
A nightmare
Never ceasing.

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
