Singled Out

Contributed by stargazer on Tuesday, 29th April 2003 @ 01:35:00 PM in AEST
Topic: Lifepoems

A girl sits in the back seat of the bus,
starring blankly out the dirty window.
Her hair is dyed and her clothes are torn.
People stare as she walks by.
She wears a spiked belt
and does not care what people think.
They compare her to Marlyn Manson...
say she'll never get far,
looking like she does.
This world is deadended.

Across town,
a scared boy sits backed up against the wall,
his nose broken and bleeding.
His eye is swollen and his clothes are gone...
he isn't sure if he can walk.
The kids beat him up,
stealing his wallet and his clothes.
He owed them a science lab,
and he refused to get it done.
He's called a nerd because he wears glasses
and dresses like he cares.
He's nicknamed Peewee,
he'll go far in life.
This world is deadended.

An angry black boy,
with ripped of shorts and a baseball bat
stares in the window he just cracked,
watching his cold eyes,
suddenly fill with tears.
Every day he wakes up to hate,
and goes to bed knowing he beat someone up that day.
That boy was just trying to stand up for himself,
it is not his fault he is the way he is.
He is called a bully or a gangster,
the kids fear him and the things he does.
This world is deadended.

A single mother, holds her baby boy,
lowering him into the basket.
Her boyfriend left her when he found out she was pregnant;
left her with the bills,
and a child to raise on her own.
She feels guilty for what she is about to do...
but its the only way.
He will never know his mom,
the same way she never knew her mom.
Its a cruel life she leads and
this world is deadended.

A rocker plays furiously on his guitar,
singing loudly to over come the yelling of his parents.
This band is his life,
and his band members are his brothers.
One day he will be famous and rock out on stage.
Sinigng about life's hard lessons and angry girlfriends.
His dad may be a lawyer and his mom is a teacher.
And he may lead a wonderful life,
but he is missing something so much more.
This world is deadended.

A pretty blonde girl,
sits at her desk, hurrying through her test.
Its hard being the way she is.
Her neighborhood is rough and her life styles are different.
She walks to school,
peering over her shoulders.
Her brother was a drug dealer but got busted
and sent to jail for five years.
She can't wait until he comes back out.
This life is hard
and this world is deadended.

A performer sits in the back seat of his limo,
thinking about the show he and the band just gave.
So many faces, so many reactions...
its the same thing everynight.
There past haunts them.
Dad used to beat him and his mom died of an over dose,
its hard to live this life.
Kids look up to him,
and sing their lyrics with pride.
If they only knew the truth behind his lyrics.
This world is deadended.

Its hard to live in a world,
where you are labeled
and you are constantly forced to wear a mask.
It doesn't matter who you are,
and what you are like.
Living in this world, you are always going to be segregated,
because of the way you are.
Dream, hope, believe... that's all that you have.
You see the stars and wonder how they got there;
because you don't think you can fight this battle,
the battle that never ends.
And then you look at yourself,
and thank God, that you are the way you are.
Maybe this world isn't so deadended,

afterall.....

Very real. Wish I could write like that! It strikes a core truth, that very few people see without help.
