Memories take me back
to warm summer days
my hair blowing round
while the windows were rolled down
the dogs riding in the back of the 4x4 truck.

Crossing the highway to drive along a two laned country road.
Pulling up to the sloughs nested out in the farm fields
as wildflowers danced along the way.....

The cattails standing proud along the rims
my red winged blackbirds singing a famous tune,
the wind tossing round big puffs of cotton
that let go of the old cotton woods lining the river.

That big dead log, I shared with black ants
a perfect hard seat hanging over the water peaceful calm
Casting out my line, let it hook and take rest near the bottom

Summer breezes teasing the line
and natures perfume enticing.
alfalfa blossoms, wild roses on the banks
yellow, and pink and the hum of the bee's.

Tug on the line, a big one again.
Who would guess?
A series of sloughs in the middle of fields
would have big trout and German browns
such as these??

The sun setting low
orange, red, pink soft glow
painting color across the sky.
Load it all up, off we go
rambling back home
cooler of fish, 4x4 truck, the dogs and I. [comments] => 9 [counter] => 199 [topic] => 43 [informant] => shelby [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 0 [ratings] => 0 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => oops )

Had to play some Janis after this read...

"Summertime, time, time,
Child, the living's easy.
Fish are jumping out
And the cotton, Lord,
Cotton's high, Lord, so high..."

The very best of stuff here, lady :-)))

This was written about one of my fishing adventures in Idaho. Back in the good ol days when you could afford to drive a billy bad ass 4x4 truck lol.

Hugs to all of you
Michelle

I was right there, at least in my head after you painted such a vivid scene for me to enjoy....and I did enjoy, thoroughly.
I liken to this to a feel good movie, but in poetic form!!

Nice work.
