Eyes follow and hooves create energy
The open fields beckon us
And finally we feel free.
A trot along some low ground
Just to check it’s not too soft
I can feel your sparkle within you
You’re ready to take off.
A small whinny of excitement
As you and I turn to face the magic
A small inclination a wink a word
And your straight off into gallop.
Full throttle down the heavenly field
You let out bucks of joy and glee
I laugh and I can’t stop smiling
Because you and I, we’re free.
We are coming towards a hedge now
You shake your head for some direction
And we turn on a penny to the left
Before the hedgerow and us make connection.
I ease you back into a soft canter
And we smoothly glide along the hill brow
We would appear on top of the world
Nothing can stop us now.
You grudgingly come back to walk
And shake your head in dismay
A few small breaths and a snort
Your rearing to go again.
I hold you back I see something else
What’s that gleaming beyond the hills
Miles upon miles upon further miles
Of open grassy fields.
Trotting up the road now
You sense my exited downs and ups
And you snort happily and power on forward
To what lays before us.
No checking of the ground this time
You touch the grass and take off without a say
I feel safe, I feel happy, I feel as one
In your precious company.
