Like a cat, who's curiosity got the better of him,
I traveled far and wide for my elusive prey.
My Prey? 'twas a dream. That's what I was after.
A dream, as vivid and intense as sunlight through a
magnifying glass. Like the calf, I wished to be
branded by it's power. Like a puppet I wished to be
jostled here and there......controlled by ecstasy.

Finally, I rested, and slept the sleep of the dead.
And at once, I was lost. Aye, lost in my head. With light. And
scattered remnants of memory from a life I wished to forget.
The Darkness was in that life. But, oh, how that dream did kill
The Darkness. It tore through it like a bullet through a piece of paper.
White hot light destroyed The Darkness and scorched it's hateful body.
Once Darkness had been vanquished, the dream took me elsewhere......

I rose! Like the Messiah, I rose out of my body.
I saw my sleeping form and regarded my human
capsule as frail and older than it should be.
That other life had drained me and squeezed me of
life till there was nothing left but a shell of what once was.
I left the shell and floated through fields of roses and poppies,
through tall birches and twisting ivy. Under water, above the sky!
I saw everything with an eagle eye. To and fro I went, then returned.

A wondrous sight awaited me. The shell had been transformed into
a young man. Once more I had muscle and skin bronze, and eyes blue.
I came down and entered this body. The wonder that had taken me over
for what seemed like a lifetime, left me just as quick as it came. I opened
my new blue eyes and stretched my firm muscles that the dream had given me.
This beauteous euphoria also gave me peace, peace that I had not felt for years.
But, most of all, the dream had given me deliverance. From darkness, deliverance!
From sadness, deliverance! From a feeling of utter ambiguity, Deliverance!

That other life seemed a very distant memory.
A memory, an existence that I would not wish upon a dog.
The dream had changed me for the better. And like the salmon,
who once swam from it's birthplace to live it's life and gain knowledge,
I too must return to where I came from and start a new existence.
-Darkness shall wash over me no more, that life is dead no need for an encore-
The Dream hath released me! The Dream hath released me! Like a newborn I am anew.
Perhaps love will find me. God, I pray it does! [comments] => 0 [counter] => 155 [topic] => 21 [informant] => Natkingcole [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 0 [ratings] => 0 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => Lifepoems )

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
