The Phantom [bodytext] => It's been a year to the day, that soldier died; I sat in my B-hut for a week and cried,
He took an RPG to the chest, kicking in doors trying to take down a terrorist,
He felt no pain, but reliving the image drives me insane,
Toss in the flash bang in hopes to subdue everyone inside,

We file in weapons at the ready; the only thing left standing was a child screaming..."You killed my daddy."
He picked up the an AK and took aim, I screamed for him to drop it, but I became his target,
He let off a couple of rounds; I had no choice I had to put him down,
Shaken by what had to happen, I ended up in the mental ward talking to the Chaplin,

When I put on my uniform I use to be filled with pride, now it's replaced with regrets of taking that boys life,
I find it hard to look in the mirror because all I see is a killer,
They say I did what I had to do, "But that boy lost his life..." but that soldier did too,
Some say I'm going to hell for what I did, the memories will never leave, will God forgive?

With suicidal thoughts, I cut my wrist, sit in the bathtub to wash the blood off,
As the lights began to fade, I hear voices call my name,
Matthew...Matthew, can you hear me, freedom is moments away, I see it so clearly,
I awake, bandages on my wrist, filled with tubes in a hospital room,

Nightmares, and reliving that night, the fear I felt replaying the fight,
I feel as if I have no soul, emotions gone...just cold,
Numb to the world around me, day after day like a zombie,
That night three people died, Pvt. Smith, the kid and I.

Forever Faithful
The Phantom

If thi is fiction then you got me. firing an rpg in an enclosed space is pretty much suicidal I would expect. Otherwise,

all I would say is that nobody can truly be judged on the spur of the moment life or death situation. Maybe the situation could have been defused but not likely. Sometimes fate plays people a lousy hand. If the soldier in question feels the need to make amends in some way then perhaps overall good may come out of a horrible situation. Just feeling guilty proves they are human and a good person. War, since the dawn of time has put people in situations like this. You can't change the past, but you can change the future. Hopefully without a gun.

Holy *****, this is ***** sad!!! Dude, I am so sorry. Really don't know what else to say but it sounds so real and I am guessing, it may very well be since you haven't posted in almost a year.

I don't know what else to say except this:

God forgives all sins, even if you would consider this a sin. I don't consider it a sin but then I'm not God. Nonetheless, you will not go to hell. You obviously feel regret...again, guessing this isn't fiction. If it is, then freaking powerful.

I'm not religious and I am not what they'd call a good Christian but I do believe and people like you do not go to hell. Consider this, it's what they're (the U.S.) over there fighting against...the Saddam Huessiens and the Osama Bin Ladden ass *****!!! They will go to hell, not people like you.

Be well and take care,

Tim

oh dearest matt, i sat here and cried, war is so heartbreaking yet what you
experienced must be the horror of horrors, ...i do not feel you did wrong and
hope you also come to this conclusion, and here is why- if that boy had killed
you he would have gone outside and feeling vindicated would have killed more
people until someone else would have shot him leaving you and countless
others dead, ~we are nothing to them- 'infidels' that they want dead- all except
their own:: and they even kill their own! that child would have grown up believing
this too, and with hatred in his heart been just as evil. you have done no wrong! blessings,

hugs n' love nessa
