then rests the cup back on her knee
for there's a chill within the air
she kneels forward to hide her cares
the table at which she is sat
flaps with paper plates and hats
the crowd have lost their gusto now
she knows that soon there'll be a row.

one thing that consoles her head
at least the children are in bed
but girl from number 2 is loud
she dances with the noisy crowd
her husband's pent up years of shame,
he calls her by a sexual name
and so it is before too late
(stella consumed by the crate).

a smack of fist upon a face
divisions in the human race.
the screams of women stoke the fires
accusations from the liars
chest pumped outwards, fists reply
a fine response from other guy.
The police arrive before too late
and see the row of empty crates.
they know tonight the hours will rack up
Radio. They call for backup.

Pride in anger sets the scene
the tainting of a noble dream
who is wrong and who is right
is all that matters in the night
twittering of upstairs curtains
children in bedrooms, they're not certain
what is happening outside
excitement whilst their heads they hide.
a topsy-turvy world it is
for usually it's screaming kids
that adults choose to late look down on
often with a made up frown on.

The end to another good night
is capped like many, with a fight.
What a truly great, proud nation
yes, we love a celebration! [comments] => 1 [counter] => 235 [topic] => 12 [informant] => poeticjestix [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 5 [ratings] => 1 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => CongratulatoryPoems )

Very well done. This just about sums up the UK perfectly. Great, if somewhat scary, images of life in our country. Thanks for sharing.
