And I sit in my rocking chair
Watching the sunset.

And, as I close my eyes,
The summer begins anew,
Each day a celebration of joy.

I see myself as a child,
Revering the sunrise,
Awaiting the day.

I see myself as a young teen,
Heartened by the day,
Awaiting the evening.

I see myself as an older teen,
Thankful for the evening,
Awaiting the night,

And I see myself at 20,
Recollecting my past,
Saddened by lost opportunities.

I see myself, and I think.
I think of what I have lost,
And what I have gained.
I think of what I will lose,
And what there is to gain.

I measure the scales of intangible things,
Acting as a medium between my own past and future,
Pretending that my life can be summed up or judged.

And I return to the present,
As the last of God’s exquisite pallet drains from the sky,
The sun setting on the final days of the summer.

Finally, I pause.
I pause to enjoy the simple things.
I pause to enjoy the time God gave me on this earth.

I am grateful for life. [comments] => 5 [counter] => 566 [topic] => 21 [informant] => TheSpiritx [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 0 [ratings] => 0 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => Lifepoems )
