these scars - self inflicted,
are too ugly to bear,
to be seen by your eyes
disgusting,
that they are,
that I am,
so disgusting
..this body, disfigured,
by nails and fingers
fat and repulsive,
teeth broken, blackened,
hollow to the core -
- like me //

// and I am
forgotten, abandoned,
no effort wasted,
to beautify that
which I've never seen beauty in,
UGLY, I scream it,
my body is bleeding,
soul is laid bare,
pockmarked and bloody
its wound disregard
and hatred of all
that runs beneath skin
bring it up to the fore
and watch as it's broken
see the hate in your eyes
that I know
is in mine

I will end up alone
I know this as well
as I know that I breathe
'Cause I feel every breath,
every scar - oh they ache,
oh they burn
and I scream
and I am so ashamed
and I can't let them see

because no one could love this
this body, this heartbreak
but it's just too hard to bear
by myself, all alone

I agree with emy, very sad and powerful, also hard to read in places because of the raw emotion clawing at you from the page.

This is poetry. It's not often that words reach further and deeper than letters on a page, but these do. I haven't read poetry in a long time, it's refreshing to come back and read one that doesn't just touch the heart, it grabs, and holds the soul. That's when you know you've written well.
Take care, dear one.
David

Self loathing, a write each and every one of us can relate to at some point. I sometimes wonder if certain people are given this view of themselves to compensate for the angel of goodness that they are inside. It keeps them humble, keeps them in touch with the truly downtrodden, never realizing the glow of goodness they give off to others and the peace they leave behind, not even realizing whom they've touched...
