and now i understand,

oh how i wish i listened

when you were close at hand . . .

Those gifts of wisdom that you gave

because you loved me so,

went in one ear and out the other

now to late i know . . .

Now your gone and i'm still here

regretting things i've done,

living with that thought each day

i failed you as a son . . .

Droping out of school

because i thought i knew it all,

now i play the fool

each and every time i fall . . .

Every thing you tried to say

fell upon deaf ears,

suddenly you went away

but never did my tears . . .

Now to late i realize

the me i could have been,

had i only listen to the you

i knew back then . . .

All you wanted was the best

for your little boy,

puttiing me above the rest

i was your pride and joy . . .

Then one day i let you down

and looked the other way,

when i looked back

you wern't around

my heart was in dismay . . .

I saw the face of lonliness

stareing back at me,

now emptiness is living

where my heart use to be . . .

How right you were my father

back then when i was small,

time has shown 'twas you alone

who really knew it all . . .
