The Old Man

Contributed by xHeathenx on Tuesday, 21st December 2010 @ 09:28:13 PM in AEST
Topic: abstract

The man ripe with age
Lies in a deep sleep
The same daily routine
A world of his own
A world he now knows

The air around him
Fades as the light dims
Memories and dreams
Together abound

His breathing soft
Muted now sound
Off to the sides
His arms outstretch

The images solid
Bump and twirl
Merely by touch
But still drift on

Ever more lovely
Ever more quaint
One hand reaches out
And grips one, a ball

Light shines faint
But beams through gaps
Found scarce in his digits
And he slides it through
The rain comes soon

The rain always comes
But tonight will be last
For tonight there was
A lack of clouds
And tonight went on

The orbs still flow
Dreams carry over new
To the ones who need
Peaceful guides

And still the rain came
Without the clouds
Without the sound
The same ever known
Without pit or pat

And the man's head
Reclines behind slow
To the side his arms go
And he sleeps once more

On the familiar night
One without the clouds
The rain falls slow
And dreams leave and go
And the rain falls slow...

Beautifully written poem. You've pretty much defined abstract poem here because it truly is abstract. Very artfully done. The words flow beautifully from one to the other. Rain without clouds could interpreted as memory retaining images of rain albeit inaccurately. Last moments in life described very poetically.

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
