Ralph Waldo Emerson

If I were to write you a note
what exactly would I write?
What could I write so you would know, see.....
My soul spilled honestly allover the clean page.

Would you read it with eyes wide open
heart stilled and with intention
feeling and hearing inside your very soul
exactly what is is I was trying to say?

Or would you sit back in your chair
feet up on the desk, roll your eyes a couple times
shake your head and crumple my heart
tossing it into the nearest trash?

I still miss you at times
you drift into my thoughts
but I don't miss you that much
not anymore, wow saying it sounds harsh.

I think once inawhile
where did the paths end
where did they go
where did we end?

What happened to my friend???

I spent a little while
looking back down that path.
Memories dancing round
a little smile, a little tear

I turned back only once more
and now I say goodbye.........

What a genuine and honest account of something cherished and how even loyalty can eventually take different paths. This was a nice piece of work. Well done.

evocatively nostalgic, theme of friendship nicely worked out...

It's such a painful and difficult process when a long lasting friendship comes to an end, with sensitivity you have wended your way along that path exploring the doubts and the fears until resolution, a grasp of finality, then after saying goodbye the healing of letting go, leaving the occasional want to revisit memories, such a depth of feeling throughout and still a tinge of melancholy lingers.
