The breeze gently rustles the palm tree
Windchimes sing a melancholy tune
There's no one to hear it but me

The water beckons, mere footsteps away
Dark velvet awash in light
The warm sultry air caresses my skin
But there's emptiness found in this night

I stare at the water - spellbound, enchanted
As tiny waves quietly lap at the shore
Across the bay a night bird calls
It leaves me straining to hear more

I yearn for strong arms to slip 'round my waist
For soft lips to whisper in my ear
Instead I have the oceans warm embrace
And the saline taste of a tear

Draped in sorrow, I dig my toes in the sand
And slowly raise my eyes to the stars
Silently, I curse my fate
For I'm caged in a cell without bars.
