It was all i knew
of mail delivery at that time
being seven years of age.
we had a tradition
in our home
a tradition as grand as
Christmas itself.
the oldest child
had the joy
of
turning the pages
first.
the first one to mark their pages
with
scotch tape.
i was lucky
my sister was the only one
older than i
and her pages and dreams were
no where near mine
or
my younger brothers.
i would sit on the living room floor
Indian style
watching her
and i would wonder
what it held for me.
all
that
beautiful
wonder.

Ahhh...you have rekindled a cherished childhood memory, and made all of us who have read your poem more child-like. I thank you for that. You are very good at expressing yourself and your innermost thoughts. That's a talent in and of itself. Thanks for writing this poem. I am going to commit it to memory!! |
