Teaching to the Test

Contributed by lesoleilnoire on Thursday, 7th October 2010 @ 07:49:20 PM in AEST
Topic: schoolproblems

The day I teach to the test, is the day I quit;
Teaching is not something that comes with a kit.
Teaching is about passion and learning--
it's not about witch-hunting and burning.
Teaching is natural, not scripted;
it's reality, not false depictions.
Teaching creates thinking;
it's not about graphs and charts shrinking.
Teaching comes from the heart;
it cannot be plotted on a chart.
Teaching is carefully planned;
it's not out of a manual and bland.
Teaching is about reaching out;
ISAT is not what it's all about.

Completely agree. When I think of my favourite teachers, they were the ones whom I could empathise with, whom I could relate to on some level. Too many of my teachers were getting us to just read through text books and copy stuff down. Where the hell is the individuality and creativity in that? School should be about thinking up ideas for yourself rather than just regurgitating tedious fact after tedious fact.
