Late Evening Trout.

Sun stroked water, gypsy heather
Cutting a purple swathe through moor
To distant hills and the smoky horizon
Of a late summer evening gathering.
On the river bank, camouflaged by feverish foliage,
A lone fisherman casts his line, a long thin snake
Hissing through the stillness,
The fly, a delicate perfect imitation, lands silently.
And ruffled by a breeze and gentle water it glides
Across the surface like a temptress determined to lure trout
From the cool clear depths. Determined to deceive
And make good a fine deliverance.
The fisherman stands alert to any movement,
To any change in the water's solitude.
And there in a rock pool a trout, a sun ghost at worship
At the temple of his dreams, catches a hint of the fly.
Follows the line of that artificial beauty, grabs, swallows
And thrashes through the cavern of his kingdom
Until at last he is floating through air on the end
Of the hissing snaking line.
Gasps in astonishment at his ending.
The heather is purple. The horizon smoky still.

I can honestly say
this is the first time
fishing has been spoken of
in such dramatic some how elegantly
meaningful tones
the back drop derived from your
narrative was deeply layered and fantastical

| the way u enliven the entire scene is remarkable, and there were so many bits that were so profound that i dont know where to start from, like "....water's solitude"... Beautiful work... |
