where I lay...there...on the bed
As they walked up...to my side
my heart filled so...with dread

The words they had...to tell me
shattered every nerve and...hope
My mind...repeating...just one phrase
you're dying...this must be a joke

There I lay...frightened...so all alone
my thoughts...inside...began to burn
I need some help...to get through this
but...wherever...was I to turn

There was no one...to help me
nobody there...to hold my hand
The nurse came in...and stuck me
then on my arm...she wrapped a band

They told me I had...cancer
my chances...not even slim
I had to have more...surgeries
their faces masked...and grim

My heart cried out to Him...above
surely you can't...just take me now
I have to find...homes...for my kids
please...you must give that time somehow

Home I went...to hold my kids
in my arms...they fell to sleep
I held them close...inhailed their scent
tried so hard...not...to weep

I made all the...arrangements
did my best...to appear...brave
I did not want to...scare them
their innocents...I wished to save

Gone...they were...with all my joy
told myself...this is how it has to be
I sank...down...into soft darkness
waiting...for death to come...for me

As you can see...I am still here
doctors do not always know...it all
There are those things that...do happen
that are not in their range...to call

Almost thirty years have come...and gone
emptiness filled my heart...and soul
although I had gone on...living?
without my kids...I was never...whole

This is not the end...no...no...no
guess He thought it time for me to...heal
For I have heard my children's...voices
not in dreams...this time it is...real

I love you Tricia and Evan
Welcome home...to my heart

How wonderful that you are still with us...for your kids, and now for us as well. Nice job.

omg! sharon! they told me that too but it never went so far as what you have suffered, and once those doctors said,"oops, our mistake" to me after we had made arrangements ect, that about destroyed me, i can only wonder in awe and amazement how you held it together! oh, my dear sharon, my heart goes out to you,
"Gone...they were...with all my joy
told myself...this is how it has to be
I sank...down...into soft darkness
waiting...for death to come...for me"
i am blown away by this poem, big huggs and love, ever nessa
