The Road

Contributed by SunshineySam on Tuesday, 10th August 2010 @ 10:33:09 AM in AEST
Topic: anguished

Brokenness is a young girl full of enthusiasm for life,
Torn to shreds when her innocence is stolen.
It is all the smashed pieces of her self worth scattered in the desert sands, by the ruthless winds of change.
It is her marred arms,
Tormented by the sharp blade of her self-loathing.
It is her body curled around the cold porcelain of regret.
It is the bottle of finality shaking in her trembling hands.

Brokenness is a loving father full of wisdom,
Eroded by the tragedies of life,
Like a stone under rushing water.
It is the upward curve his lips attempt to form after the amputation.
It is his daughter's hand quivering and the tear rolling down her cheek,
As she breaks his cracker to feed him.
It is his mind full of life,
Prisoner to a tired, worn body.

Brokenness is a family,
Shattered by the hard hammer of tragedy.
It is a mother doing her best to hold her family together.
It is her folded hands,
Lifting a prayer to God to heal her husband and daughter.
It is the loving brother holding his sister in his arms,
Not wanting to let her go,
Before she goes to the hospital.
It is a beaten, crumbled part of a road, no one ever wants to travel.

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
