So much so
Last night she exacted a fearful revenge.
Roaring a vulgar tune she swept down the hillside,
Across the weeping moor snapping saplings clean in half,
Whip cracked and somber echoed a lonely cry.
In the garden she struck a sinister pose
Clawing with twisted fingers at the aviary door
Until the birds, worn down by fright, retreated indoors.
She squared up to the greenhouse and the door,
Caught in a frightening gust, burst its rubber womb
And fell to the wooden deck with sickening thump.
All night she waited as if to seek a confrontation,
A confrontation we were unwilling to make.
Then across the way she tormented the trees,
Until, with a loud shriek, they fell across the power lines,
And wind roared a wicked laugh, clapped a loud applause
As the cables crossed and spat fire into the night air.
And all around the cables popped and banged and flashed
Tinting the air blue and grey with acrid tears.
And the rain sheeted down, the wind she raged on,
Blinding the eye of the hills that sat emerald black and smoking.
And all the time we waited, sleep a distant memory,
Until dawn choked the sky crimson and wind,
With a final cry of a satisfied wretch,
Headed for the awakening far horizon. What a wonderful way to introduce the summer wind and as always the highest standard in description and the warmest heart to convey feelings and take the reader there to the centre of the storm.

Brilliant imagery. I actually love nights like this, even
though the damage and injury can be devastating.

"Until dawn choked the sky crimson"

Wow! What a gloriously, beautifully, poetic line. Damn
fine writing. And wonderfully emotive.

AhhhhhhhhhhDennis I'm always memorized by your imagery. I shall never again see the Wind in Wyoming that I will not think of this poem.
I'm interested in knowing, where are you during these terrible winds? Do you have a well built house for protection.
Loved every line of it.
Warm love

Hi Dennis,

I am always truly amazed how easily you capture
the personalities and characteristics of Nature.
And you've done it again! However, Nature does
not always enrapture us - it startles us too, as
you so succinctly pointed out.
