Array ( [sid] => 16078 [catid] => 1 [aid] => Mick [title] => Gotterdammerung [time] => 2003-04-16 02:45:00 [hometext] => A poem about a mythical struggle between the gods, applied to our modern society. [bodytext] => Who are we to make decrees
To angels or the sand?
Who are we to claim dominion
Over all the land?

Our culture boasts a lot of things
On right and wrong and liberty,
But sin and greed fill all I see,
So prove that God is here.

An existentialist at heart
Grew up to make fine works of art
And in his lifetime made a fortune
Sans the art of prayer.

So born to be and born to die
We all are sad and simplified
Versions of the men we hide
With stories of our worth.

Some chemicals once came about
That suddenly could figure out
Just how to make themselves abound
And so they multiplied.

“Jesus wept.” The bible said.
The bible knows that God is dead,
For hell and Gaea have been wed
And now the kudzu chokes.

So Armageddon has begun.
This is the Gotterdammerung.
The lynch mobs have the angels hung
For five dollars a head.

And laws now say that you can kill
If you have boredom and the will
To flay the demons that are still
Worshipping your God.

So back to dust and horses too.
One third of us are painted blue
And yellow skies will bear a new
Breed of humanity.

This is the end of all I hate.
No longer must I sit and wait.
The air has lost the putrid taint
Of greed.
Of humanity. [comments] => 3 [counter] => 163 [topic] => 11 [informant] => Butterat_Zool [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 10 [ratings] => 2 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => ChristianPoetry )
