Staring at you,
And he’s been there all day.
What does he see?
You sense he might know.
And you wish he’d just fly away.

But he’s wiser than you,
As he sits on his perch,
So patient, silent and smart.
It makes you uneasy.
You wish he would leave.
So why won’t he just depart?

He’s just a beast.
How could he know?
You decide it just couldn’t be.
But his silence - it screams!
It won’t let go.
And you know he’s not going to leave.

He’s waiting on you!
He knows it’s your turn,
And only you can break his spell.
Because you did the deed.
And your guilt is real.
You feel it all too well.

Convinced it’s all right.
You stand your ground.
Believing that you won’t be found.
But you know it’s not true.
As your conscience runs thin.
And he’s poised there not making a sound.

The tension’s so great!
Just get it all out!
Could that be worse than his cold black eye?
Then you look at him,
And he looks at you,
You know you can’t live a lie.

So there’s no way out now.
You’re convinced that he knows.
And you spill what you know is right..
Then you look back at him,
But he’s no longer there.
That raven has taken to flight!

This poem reminds me of the works of Edgar Allen Poe. Very interesting.
