the thunder roared the lightning crashed
my soul was filled with woe

Quite normally the sounds of a thunderstorm are sweet
much like music to my ears as the pen and paper meet
But on this night twas different as yet another sound was heard
I listened quite intently yet never heard a word

Shaking yet beneath the sheets water ran as sweat
and still this dread filled all the room for it wasn't fininshed yet
and as I sat there bundled up I wildly scanned the room
between the flashes of the light I felt a sudden gloom

What can this be? I wondered as yet another crash was heard
then through the sound of thunder it was then a spoken word
at first it seemed so faint then a little louder still
then I shook and cringed within myself as fear deeply bent my will

Suddenly there before me stood a figure in disarray
I tried to hide my face and I tried to look away
"Look at me" it whispered, "and I'll show you things within
for I have watched you silently, now let it all begin"

Then I cried out "just who are you! go away and leave my sight!"
But it just stood there watching me in the loudness of the night
"I will not leave till you have seen the misery of it all
till you have looked, untill you know the greatest secrete of them all"

And as I shook and cried at the terror from within
this apparition gathered close and thus it did begin
"I've watched you as you spent your days and saw your restless nights
struggling hard within yourself to understand whats right

You've absently hurt others as you've struggled all in vain
thrashing out and causing woe because you felt such pain
jealously you've guarded your posessions and your heart
not knowing they're not really yours...you haven't been too smart

"But wait" said I, "that's not the case! I do all that I can..."
"You think you have and I'm quite sure but such is not the plan
Material things we treasure as we push aside the soul
these things are lost quite easily and you lose what makes you whole

I know living souls like you who place great store upon all wealth
and you can't know the torments of one living deep in hell
and that is why I've come to you that this message true was sent
that you should see one final time before your soul is wrent

Don't be like me as in my life great treasures, wealth I sought
pushing others needs aside my place in hell was bought
for others I cared nothing of as power was my god
and now the fires and paths of hell are where my feet now trod

Be wary now and listen hard and hear these words from me
or soon we'll meet in that abyss as I show you torments street"
Then suddenly he stopped and still the worst horror yet
his ghastly face leaned close to mine and the smell of him was death

I threw myself from off my bed and on the floor I shook
"depart from me!" I cried out, as once again I looked
the thunder roared the lightning crashed and the room was filled with gloom
but yet I did not see that ghostly being in the room

Was it I'd been dreaming when perhaps I'd fell asleep
or was this THING that I had seen some wisdom I should keep?
All I will say to you right now is when the storm and thunder crash
don't be surprised if you should see this spector from the past
