I remember the words that were spoken
Like it happened just today
You made me a promise
Or was it a game I didn’t know was in play

As you laid there beside me
Said you were confessing and pledging your heart
All along knowing it wasn’t true
You never intended for me to play that large a part

I wanted to believe every word
And intention was true to the core
I dropped all my defenses
And was left with a hole in my heart and a soul that was tore

The more time that passed
The more severe and deeper goes the wound
I thought surely healing would begin
For my sanity sake I hope it does soon

I believed in what you said you stood for
And who you said you were
But there has been so much deception
That everything now is such a blur

What I can figure out
And I’m sure will never understand
What did you think you would gain?
What was the purpose of your plan?

I can’t believe I fell for it
And The Promise You Made To Me
You’re very selfish and cruel
Is what I now have come to believe

There was no reason to do those things
There was no cause or a need
As I have stood on the outside
I’m not the only one that you mislead

How can you live with these things
That you say and you do?
Where do you draw the justification?
And for the record who are you?

I’ve watched the patterns
And the destruction that you leave in your wake
How do you live a life like that?
How do you pull off being so fake?

You say you care about others
But that can hardly be true
I know I’m far from perfect
But I wish I’d only knew

I still would have helped you
And done whatever I can
There was no need for you to take advantage
When I reached out my hand

You can say whatever you want
But your actions speak loud and clear
I’ve learned a great lesson
And over it won’t shed another tear

I do thank you for some things
That you started and tried to do
But when it’s all on the table
Those that are left add up to be few

It’s a vicious cycle you spin
For all those that are around
You said you didn’t know why people act the way they do
Well that answer I’ve found

When you do what you do
And convince them to trust and believe
What do you think will happen when you break it?
Like you did The Promise You Made To Me

What I wish you would realize
Is you don’t have to do all that mess
I hope you break the cycle soon
And give it a rest

It’s got to get lonely
When you keep hurting those with whom you’re around
I hope you know I only say this cause I care
And I want you to have the same peace that I’ve found

History speaks for itself
In everything we say and do
Keep that in mind with next promise made
Not just to yourself but others too.
