For that nasty habit
Of those who like to walk the line
Of mortality, blurred by sickness

To trace the woodgrains
Imprinted on arms, legs,
Wherever you can reach

You're a sick, sick fool
To think it's like
Chewing gum to calm the nerves

Only heightens that itch
That lingers below the skin
To deny, no no no,
Have yourself some dignity

When you know,
If you've ever collapsed
You will again

You'll see the faded white tiles
Just before you hit
Stained with your mistakes
And this was one
You'll always beg forgiveness

No one ever has
But maybe they should
Call it an addiction

To follow the mind's obsession
Resist, cry, give into compulsion
Pangs of guilt, a sign hung on your door

It most certainly IS an addiction. It calms us like a drug would, and can sometimes even sustain the sanity we all strive for.
