And the moon greets me
Like a girl slightly overweight
Always nice, always with a smile
You keep my secrets, you watch me cry
Witness to my dreams and my crimes
As you turn round and round
I remain stuck to the ground

Full moon, listen to me now.
Remember that girl the other night?
Sweet was her voice, and tender was her touch.
Yeah, but I dumped her right on the spot.
And the job also; they canned me.
And the books I bought are in the trash.
My last buck went to a bartender’s safe
And I shed my last tear thinking about my first love.

Now, after all these years
That you glided over me, holding your tongue,
I’m asking you for the first time.
Where’s the guy short and stocky,
With glasses hiding his naive eyes?
Where’s the guy filled with desire
And thinking love is there to be found?
Where is the guy I used to be?
‘Cause I need him to hold a gun
And bury his future on the ground

These lamps lighting the street,
They know me not.
And the windows always shut,
Like rotten teeth they mock my plight.
Cursed is my kind, coded in my blood
To fail, to lose and to give up
Tell your hot friend, sweet moon,
I’ll be gone when she comes around.
We never got along anyway.
Everything she touches turns to dust.

I loved your choice of words for this poem. It's a heartbreaking poem, but a well written one. Great job.

This was one of the better poems I've read on this website. Its message convincing, strong, and relatable. As for the imagery and the symbolism---beautiful. I felt your pain as if it were my own; in fact, you descripiton of the night with its silent sentry the moon gave me chills. Brilliant work here my friend. Take care.
