Array ( [sid] => 15930 [catid] => 1 [aid] => Mick [title] => That first kiss [time] => 2003-04-13 22:25:00 [hometext] => This happened in 1935. Things were different then. [bodytext] => We'd gone to play down the marshes
We had a "den" down there
Beryl Gibson came with us
she had long dark hair

The gang didn't think much of girls
but Beryl was alright
she didn't mind showing her knickers
and when she got mad she could fight

She was good at climbing trees
I shinned up a willow to match her
she got onto this big thick branch
and the gang all shouted "Catch 'er"

I grabbed her round her slender waist
and we sat looking at eachother
Roy shouted "Bet you daren't kiss 'er"
(Up till then I'd felt like her brother)

"Betcha daren't kiss 'im", shouts Roy
"Oh yes I dare" shouts Beryl,
I think she was all of ten
and me about eleven.

Full and square our lips met.
The gang fell about with glee
but I didn't take much notice
'cos something was happening to me.

Don't ask me what it was
Not something about which I'd talk
but after church on Sunday
I asked her to go for a walk

The tale is absolutely true
The dialogue, as reported
The tree, the branch, may still be there
where I was first "transported"

Well p'raps that isn't quite the word
it was so unexpected
but "something" inside briefy stirred
just as our lips connected

Well I hadn't thought of it quite like that.

Beryl was a bit of a "Tom boy". What do you call them in the USA?

This is a wonderful poem. And what a sweet memory. It is good to have memories like this to look back on. My poem "Honeyes Lips" which is suposed to be "Honeyed Lips" was written about my first "real" kiss. I really enjoy looking back on that memory.

Thanks BBY' sorry to be a bit slow replying, having problems installing a new program.
Yes it seems like yesterday, funny how some memories stick so vividly yet others
(far more recent) disappear.

How wonderful you have stired up so many emotions in me since reading only a few of your poems
Will set aside some time at my desk to read all your others

Now it is christmas eve and going to go to my daughters for a family buffet lunch
