Name Slave

Contributed by regent on Thursday, 22nd April 2010 @ 12:09:47 PM in AEST
Topic: abstract

Is it our names that make us man,
or do we have something beyond
whats written in the sand?
Do we not stare at the sky
and count the stars
like coins in a wishing well
they reveal and swell the soul
that makes us real, that makes us
tangible, managable, countable
for these names arent those
assigned for our heart but our number
in a line of millions. As many
as the twilights we see and believe
for every star you see can be bought
and sold at a whim not unlike
the nameslaves weve become, and
with time will there be a difference
between a name and number.

Calling citizen 235-492-495 to the rations office.
dont forget your ticket. Or you wont
eat, but would you trade your bread
for dreams, your water for identity.
So stare at the stars and try to recall
the name of your soul, and in the cold
recall the part that makes you whole?

A unique and interesting view on humanities makeup. Thought provoking and a stimulant for the mind. A write outside the mold and a pleasure to read.

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
