that in this time,
people are still buried
with the name,
John or Jane Doe.
They are still people,
brought into this world
with a name,
though not engraved in plastic,
for them to carry and show.
It is a shame
that we are not all
natural born journalists,
with the need to know,
who, what, where, why, how and when.
I think that even common courtesy
went out of date,
about the time ,
when men ceased to remove their hats
whenever they stepped in.
I guess we are distracted
by those figures flashing across the board,
like a heart monitor ,
for the life of bonds and stocks.
But even when,
an airplane crashes,
they keep searching,
know matter how long it takes,

It seems so sad,
that in this time,
people are still buried
with the name,
John or Jane Doe.
They are still people,
brought into this world
with a name,
though not engraved in plastic,
for them to carry and show.

Well it's Sunday and I'm picking up again on your suggested list.............(By the way I notice Chrissie calls you Lynn whereas Pooh Bear was/is male) ?????????????

I agree with you that common courtesy has definitely "gone out of date" though I still practice a vestige of it. I was born shortly after WW1 and brought up raise my hat,walk on the outside, stand up when elders or guests enter the room etc. (and still do)

However respect for the dead was considerably blunted by being blitzed in WW2.
One becomes innured when death comes in quantity night after night and many bodies (or parts of bodies) have to be attended to next day.

Now that I no longer believe in an after life
death seems even less important to remark upon

Nevertheless it is important to cherish the best of our traditions and respect for the individual before and after death is not something I would argue against. I think your poem is very touching on the subject and really drives it's point home with great skill.
