A best friend would stay forever
Through love and hate
And strength and weakness
And all those good things Birthday cards say

But friends are still human
And humans are still selfish
And best friends eventually wander away
It's not fast like running
Its slow like sinking into the ocean
And slipping away under the waves

Other people come along
And best friends get distracted
Until they simply don't care
About the good ole' times anymore

At first its subtle
"No, I can't come over tonight"
But it gets louder
Until they don't even answer at all

I guess thats what we get
When we put out love in people
Trust is broken like friendships
And friendships are broken like bones
