Thrown into a foundry boiler, a ten year old girl
Is burnt alive; coming to know the father dies of shock.
A school boy finishes off his mate in a fit of rage,
For the victim failed to repay the loan, a paltry sum.
Starved of hard cash to indulge in the week-end revelry,
Students way lay a doctor to rob of his belongings.
Home alone, house wives become victims
Of the unsuspecting visitors knocking at their doors.
In a busy and crowded market place, in broad day light
Armed with deadly weapons, a few beasts chase a person,
Hack him to death; walk away with blood soaked hands.
An infidel wife with the help of her paramour
Kills her husband, to continue her affair, uninterrupted.
And a gun-wielding savage shoots indiscriminately,
Killing the innocent and terrified children in a class room.
The terrorists, a serious threat to global peace,
By their evil designs, hold the humanity to ransom.
What you’ve read is not from any fiction or a thriller;
But real incidents, happening every day,
On the face of the Earth, our insecure abode.
The movies exhibiting excessive violence and vulgarity,
The umpteen channels churning out loathsome episodes,
The self-styled leaders whipping up racial and religious passions,
Corrupt and misguide the vulnerable minds.
The nexus between the self- centred politicians,
The conniving police force and under ground dons,
Has demoralised the society at large.
Often the prison is a retreat to the criminals,
Who relax and revel in the peaceful ambience
Only come back to pursue their ‘profession’ more vigorously.
The heinous crimes and brutal murders, rising alarmingly,
Only expose the degeneration of the ailing society.
A nation can survive even reduced to bankruptcy,
There is always a chance for reform and revival;
But not with a morally crippled society;
That would spell doom however mighty the nation may be.

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
