I have to tell you my mother duckling

how special it is to have a mallard like me

You’ve always told and said I can do anything

Just spread your wings and be free

I want you to know that never leaves my thoughts

And makes some very vivid dreams

I want soar through the sky like an eagle

To glide along above the streams

Anything is possible right

As long as I stay true and believe

Oh look see that one there mother

One day that will be me.

Which brings me to the other

Thing that’s swimming through my mind

Those others there hanging at the pond

Really are just a big waste of time

You couldn’t imagine some the things

They talk about and what they say

They’re total satisfaction comes when

people throw us bread some days

Well not this duckling, I’m not gonna

Hang here for them to stuff me with bread

So that some winter they can admire me above

Their mantle when I’m dead.

You know how hard I try

And all the things that I’ve done

Admittedly they weren’t always the most practical

But those really were the most fun

As many times as I’ve leapt And had a running start,

remember over there

You always have been rooting me on

Making me feel so loved for and cared

So I want to thank you for all

That you’ve done and do

I remember the story of the swan

And that fairytales can come true

I may not be an eagle today

Or even tomorrow that won’t change

But I know what my spirit says

And that’s the really important thing.

So Mother Duckling Hold your head high

And spread your feathers with Pride

Cause you boy is on his way

As He takes it all in Stride.

I’ll always remember to give it my all

And never not try

I will figure out a way to soar

I will learn to fly

I will make the dream come true

not a swan but an eagle I will be too.
