Each breath a moments reckoning of a life I do not know,
The wind that whispers through my hair and sun upon my face,
Lends grace to all my thoughts of you and dreams I can’t replace.

Below me lay the pitted rocks, the maw of some great beast,
Preparing to devour me and consume me as its feast.
Yet up above, among the stars, your beauty yet untold,
Is waiting for my leap of faith in wings that will unfold.

Such misery consumes me as I search for strength within,
To take the step that fate demands, a new life to begin.
While longing for the courage that I fear I’ll never find,
I close my eyes to take that step, and leave the world behind.

i am not sure i understood the meaning of this poem but i can say i loved the way it was written.i think, though, that it talks about a guy who's gonna kill himself to join the one he loves and who is dead or smtg like that...is it?

I almost think this is more than a man conversing with a dead loved one on the brink of suicide. More it seems to be a man alone before his God, unsure if death will bring him eternal life or eternal damnation. This poem has a good rythmn and really paints a vivid picture.

I read this as one who belongs to someone, yet loves another. Who isnt sure if he should leave the life he now leads, the one who he has known for so long, and take a chance at happiness with this other who he truly loves. If I am way off..lol forgive me. This is an exceptional write in either case my friend. Very well done! Larry

My first thought was of suicide like the first 2 ppl who commented, but I can see where Larry's thoughts could also apply... well written, tho....

Actually you got it almost perfectly. In my mind I pictured the man on the cliff edge but the rest was symbolic of the emotional choice one would make in a situation such as you described and the outcome would be the consequences of that decision. Either to be dashed upon the rocks below (emotionally destroyed) or to be swept up to the heavens (finding their dreams realized). However when I showed this poem to a few people they each commented on how it reminded them of suicide..(With the exception of one other person). I hadn't even realized that this could be read in such a fashion until they mentioned it and then I had to agree. That is why I was curious as to how the people on this site would interpret this poem.

In any case, as with any poem, it will touch each reader in its own fashion being neither right nor wrong.

hmm... i like what everyone else said for a reason yet have to have a go myself lol, first of all it is a lovely excellent write, and as far as interpreting; i think it could be a man on the verge of leaving off on life to join with a beautiful mythical creature woman, he's hesitant yet passionatly wants to go even he won't be human anymore:P lol, sorry im sure the others were right and im way off!
hugs nessa

i see a person at crossroads in their life...uncertain of love...and a future untold...a turmoil over a tough decision to make...or maybe it's just the way i needed to view it tonight....but that's the beauty of this...many can interprate it in many ways...so creative and wonderfully written...
hugs

Ha..I was soooo wrong in my interpretation. When I read this..the first thought that came to mind was..oh my, Doug is gonna have another child soon. I read into it that it wasn't expected and was causing a lot of grief between you and your 'better' half (hehe had to throw that in there)..and that the 'big step' you were taking ..well that should be obvious in my interpretation...So you see...I was wayyyyyyyy off..lol oh well...It is an awesome poem either way...
