It's nice to wake up in the morning, looking horrid, and still able to provoke warm affection from one who is generally cold to most. [bodytext] =>

i am a complete tragedy

wrapped in an over-sized robe
that does not compliment;
hair is an
e x p l o s i o n
of artificial red,
dark, curly mass
that swells with sleep -

leftover eyeliner smudged
by hands that search for you
in dreams
and in waking -

eyes that are merely a shade lighter
than ****,
not worth falling into,
not compared to your butcher gaze
that softens, slightly,
when i smile

i tell you this
while standing over a pink mug
filled with tea that you steal
sips from
on occasion,

i tell you, secretly, that i know you love me
because your eyes, frequently frozen
and embittered
with their blue winters,

melt ,

so very slightly,
even now when i am
a waking beast of a tragedy,

even now as you take another sip
of Earl Grey
from a pink mug.

i know you love me because

you hate tea.

Hi,

How refreshing to read a love poem that doesn't
sink into repetition or cliches .... yet grasps the
essence of blind unselfish love.

Not short on humour either!

Well done!!

Tommy

:) ... that last line made me laugh. I've never read one from you quite like this. Sounds as though you've found someone special. That's awesome. Your descriptions ( as always) are wonderful... I often wonder how you do it. I've spent hours before trying to get a gothic feel by somehow comparing spider webs to barren winter trees and a thousand other such ideas. I've often wondered how long it takes you to write your poems. I find if I work on one to long I lose the raw emotion but if I go to fast it often turns out like Frankenstein's monster.... a decent part here and there but overall ugly and poorly stitched together. You however seem to have no such problems. Your's are well put together and still intense and powerful. That's why you are one of my favorite poets. Truly , D

Completely and utterly captivating! That ending just blew me away. So THAT'S how you know, is it? (I've been looking for all the wrong signs .. lol) . I am indeed in awe of your talent. That opening is unbelievable! God, how many times have I thought that and never had the wit to aritculate it so perfectly! This was sensational. A love poem that doesn't feel like a soggy mess. Spectacular job!
