Looking back at me
Telling of things to come
Of impending tragedy

As I approach him
He just moves away
Staying the same distance
Tomorrow as he was today

Cascading dreamlands melt
Eating awy the night
The shilouette beckens me
To follow without fright

Keep on moving he tells me
Over crags with great care
It is safer over here
I have so much to share

So I start to run
At a breakneck speed
Past the patient scholars
And the waiting steed

The figure calls again
Hurry dont delay
There is so much up here with me
Faster faster this I pray

Past the gold and past brood
With my winged shoes
Gracefully across plains
This is what I choose

Two wise pilars stand tall
Slow down they say
Look at whats in your pack
Live to full each day

Yet I chase this shadow man
Past the mountains tall
Down the other side
Amazed he never falls

He is always just out of reach
He sleeps when i choose to
He always seems to match me speed
He seems to know all that I do

Far behind is all I know
Through the forest bare
I chased this man for ages
I see him start to near

Its colder now and he move slow
I seem a clearing grow
Its hard to breath and move my legs
There is something he wishes to show

He has stopped and i keep on
Finaly I shall see
What it is that I must view
From the man who beckoned me

I appraoch him and he greet me
A smile on his face
Behind me lies my whole life
Forgottn in this race

This man looks familiar
Someone once I did know
Long ago when I stared to run
See in the glassed echo

He knows Im tired
And can run no more
He show me a place to lie
Deep beneath earths floor

As I close my eyes to rest
I wonder with thoughts rife
Why i chased this man so long
Instead of living life

Oh my, what a brilliant metaphor. Well executed. The moral of this really makes one ponder on who we are and where we are actually going. Perhaps, 'tis true, that journey is the thing and not so much the destination. We need only slow ourselves down a little and truly embrace all that is on the way. Wow. You really made me think with this one.
