crash down with mighty force upon the deck
wind blows sky dark above seagulls sigh
fly inland for shelter wind upon neck

No man on deck just skipper at the wheel
men pray below for safety of the shore
skipper drawn tired fights for even keel
decks awash thunder calls aft and fore

Below the deck a young man crouched in fear
just his second time at sea he thinks of mother
old Tom goes to comfort him trawlerman of many year
wraps one arm around the lad stare at each other

Tiny vessel tossed like a toy the sea to play
gale so strong waves so high crash fore and aft
men below crouch and pray to see another day
skipper fights the wheel to save this craft

Steers for port with all his strength and fight
his men below he thinks to land them safe
at last a calm in the distant of the night
weary worn tiny vessel steadies won the chase

Men sign and cry below now for port there bound
again there loved ones will see all safe sound

Lovely poem! I have the greatest respect for these guys. I like the way you have put warmth into the poem with part story and their ultimate aim to be safely home again.
