"Are you a person, too?"
"Of course I am," I answered her.
"Do I not look like people do?"

"Well I have a special sense of sight—
I can see into people's souls.
I tend to find most interesting things,
But yours is missing—there's just a hole."

"A hole?" I gasped, "What does that mean?
That really can't bode well."
"Well, my dear, just listen to me—
sit down and your story I'll tell."

"It is not often I find empty souls—
I've seen good and I've seen very bad.
But an empty soul, it holds more meaning
Than any other soul one could have.

"It is neither good nor bad—
It's simply nothing at all.
You had a soul once, that I know—
perhaps this you may recall?

"Your soul was bright, and full of life—
Colored richer than a beautiful rainbow.
It held innocence, wonder, laughter, and love—
Through your heart and eyes they would show.

"It held your dreams, and it held your goals—
Ambitious destinies waiting to be filled.
Because it harbored all these positive things,
It seemed certain you'd be successful and skilled.

"Then one day your soul was beaten—
It sustained a rather large crack.
In just seconds, everything you had
Was gone and not coming back.

"Now you are left with a gaping hole
In the place your soul should be.
I cannot tell you what to do,
But there are options—I have three.

"You can work hard to seal the crack;
It might be emotional though.
For in order to create the seal,
You'll need to build back trust and love.

"You can also stay the way you are—
Nothing but an empty shell.
I hear you don't covet change at all,
So while sad, this could work quite well.

"There is still one more option,
And I fear you'll like this one best:
If you feel life is pointless with no soul,
Lay your hollow body to eternal rest." [comments] => 1 [counter] => 191 [topic] => 22 [informant] => nature [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 10 [ratings] => 2 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => LostLove )
