The world doesn’t like the weak; it loves the ones who try

And keep on going. Never mind the pain or what you feel

All it is is just one heck of an illusion- it isn’t real.”

He would put me on my feet; wipe away my tears

And just like that – he’ll make me fearless of my fears.

Today I stand beside his bed.

The smell of alcohol cuts through my nostrils… I am sad:

White walls are whispering the names of dead and some

Are whispering my father’s name…

He has achieved his goal of making me a man-

The proud, strong, hard working, never-crying man…

But today, my dearest father, in memory of you…I’ll bow my head,

And shed a tear or few for I have always been well-dressed and fed,

And have become what you have wanted me to be.

I’ll keep on going forward like you taught me,

And keep on living life… but not today because what I feel

Is overpowering… It is, indeed, too real.

I will teach me children to be as strong as you, I’ll try…

But I cannot hold back my tears… today, I have to cry.
