When I woke up reaching for him

He could be a while, and he doesn’t know
When I stopped living and sat dead

I tried laughing, the way he taught me to
I didn’t know I was crying though
Until my friends tried stopping me…

Turn off this life, I am only a paper doll
That either crushes hard or reaches him over the seas

He must be crying too, from times we never were
Mouthing Cossack jokes from winter nights

He is a phantom who knows the gypsy routes
From Vladivostock to Kiev to the loss of innocence

And he was always mine through it all…

They now go back to each other, that’s the route again
From church contracts, and their contracted lives

While my moth beats death throes in solo flight

She needs him just as much, I might think
She carries his name from their matched lives

And my moth flutters her mute songs
From his cliffs down my spiraling life…
