Shooting Star

I look up to see a comforting sight
a shooting star, prancing in the sky
It is illuminating to watch
weaving and diving among the stars
It is vaulting and running
a radiant planet so distinct in the sky
When suddenly, it accelerates and
dashes
out
of
sight.
Like the death star itself has just fired off its guns
A blazing trail follows it away, a constant echo
An unforgiving meteorite, the shadow of a black hole
I wonder what the men in the space stations think
As nature’s rocket races into the
dark
