Springs first early thaw
Work gloves fit just right
Fresh tilled earth
Fertilized rich dark soil
New shovel all shiny
Fresh plump bulbs
Sold from the store
Brought home in a box
Spot all picked out
Holes dug for planting
Six inches deep
Snow came too soon
Put in the cellar
Maybe next year’s planting
