One Fret Too High
One day I discovered I was
livin' life one fret too high;
It was where I'd always been;
prob'ly be where I was gonna' die;
I was amazed I'd lived this long
and never figured out the reason why
No one could see what I saw, think what I thought,
or hear children cry;
They just seem to be standin' around watchin';
watchin' 'em die...
Everything's a little bit different now,
but ain't nothin' changed;
Same room; same furniture;
it's just been rearranged;
It's not like I've gained or lost anything;
I've always been estranged;
I'd rather see what I see, think what I think,
and be called deranged;
I'd rather feel everything I feel
and live outside the cage...
