" When I grow up, I must marry you!"

Lin told Ping these words when she was nine years old. At that moment, the noonday sunshine in the beginning of winter shone fall on her face, her face flushed red, Ping got a start when he looked at her.

From then on, Ping always thought they would have a wonderful wedding after many years just like the princess and princesses in fairy tales. " How beautiful! " When he thought that, he always smiled happily.

Ping liked to take Lin to the street, to watching the crowd coming and going. No matter how hot the sun was, He always bought two ice-creams with the money his parents gave him, one for each, and lowering his head to see her eating with great care.

At odd moment, Ping realized there was nothing like sharing ice-creams with her, he would rather live just so.

After eight years, they started their collage life, of course, they both got into prestigious universities. Lin studied chemistry, Ping studied computer, but Lin stayed in PeiJing, Ping stayed in ShangHai, the time-lag was between them both. Ping always remembered the days he wondered on the street in the hot summers with Ling, and the times they shared ice-creams, Ping often recalled the word Ping told him" I will marry you when I grow up." Every time, he always felt very warm, the warm flow would rise in the mind gently.

On the long vacation of the third year in university, Ping went to BeiJing to see Lin, they met at railway station. He saw her standing there with the roses in her hands, how gorgeous her smile was! the sun of the early spring shone on her long straight hair, what a kissnableness!

"Lin!" he almost ran to her, calling her name kissingly.

"Thanks for coming, Ping." she smiled, handing him the beautiful roses. The aroma of the roses made him dizzy.

"One of my classmates rented a house out of the school, she was going to have a part-time job on the vacation, but her parents wanted her to go back home. When she knew you were coming here, she had given me the key before she leaved." she said, still smiling.

He followed her to the house. The house was set near her school, some chinar trees was standing on the street, some leaves could reach to the window, they could smell the fragrance of the leaves after showers.

"Lin!" he called her name quietly and softly.

"What's wrong?" she turned her head, looking at her with growing uneasiness.

" It's been a long time no see you. Oh, yes, one and a half year. You look change a lot." He smiled and concealed his worries behind a mask of nonchalance.

"Yes. every one will change following the years, it's impossible to keep ourselves always." she stared at the leaves from the window.

The excitement quickened his pulse, his hand rested lightly upon her shoulder, then held her hands tightly.

She turned her head again, but she hid her eyes quickly when she saw his hot eyes, lowering her head, and feeling her cheek tingle.

A breeze rippled his heart, he clasped her to his bosom, hugging snugly. He could feel her body trembling.

He held her low face up, kissing her red lips deeply.

"Ah? No!" she raised her hand to stop his lips.

But he let it go. He kept kissing on his lips, sliding his hand down her alabaster complexion......

She felt her body hurt......

When she opened her eyes, she saw a leaf falling down from the chinar tree, flying into the room, fell down beside the bed at last.

Suddenly, tears streamed down her face......

In a month, she received a letter from ShangHai. She opened it, a smooth paper dropped down from the envelope.

She picked the paper up. It's an ice-cream paper, it's the kind of ice-cream paper from many years ago. She put it on her desk, opened the letter:

Dear Lin:

How are you? I am sending you an ice-cream paper that I kept for eight years. Ten years passed, I have never forgotten the days we walked on the street hand in hand. Do you know? When I went to BeiJing and saw you holding the red roses smiling at me, when you lowered your head standing before me, I swore I must marry you, I will live with you in all the following days.

Do you know? I was very moved by the sweetness of lowering your head, stay with you, I will never feel loneliness.

Love you forever!

Your Ping

In ShaiHai

She wrote back soon, It's only one very word in her letter with the biggest writing brush: I love you! My parents wanted me to go abroad to study, but I didn't, for I love you!

That autumn, he was very happy. He often walked and lingered outside in the long long HanDan road. To see some people coming and going on the wide road, he would think of their future, laughing quite silly.

Coming from the gate of FuDan, to go through the DingGuo Road, there was a new network company in the Culture park of the WuChuan Road. He often stayed there, logging to the forum for spending his free time, to search the familiar and strange ID one by one. When he saw the squirrel following between the two sides, his heart would feel warm all at once. He started to send some articles on a Feeling Tone Of Little worm.

He felt he was a wanderer, overripe expression, bleak mood. He would rather take to the road than stay with the computer.

Soon, somebody wrote back him a message, that was a girl named Xiao. She wrote: " I guess you are a student from FuDan."

To him, it's a great surprise. He hardly wrote back message in the forum, but that time he did.

"Why?" he wrote this word following his message.

"Because I can know you are a sad and decadent man from your article. Yes, you are a very little worm, but purity. the taste just come from FuDan." Xiao wrote.

Suddenly, he found himself more and more interested in her. So, he like to stay there, that was the first time he stayed there for a long time.

"One is tired with walking, he would rather stay than walk."

"One have spent an exhausting day wondering, he will find a place for staying at last."

"And me too?" he asked himself, laughing at himself.

The sixth month of the year. Lin hadn't written him for many months, no calls too. Whenever he phoned her, there was always that Lin was not in.

Finally, Ping got news after many calls: Lin had taken out her diploma before one month and went abroad with her parents, left no sort of trace, even a telephone number.

Suddenly, everything went round and round in his head and fainted......

He went out with his friend and drank many wine. Returning home, he went to bed, he almost forgot all the pains and sorrows. But he felt he had a headache in the middle of the night. No, he had a splitting headache. He got up and drank some water. looking at the dark night, the face of the night was as long as a fiddle. The wind blew into the room from the opening window, circling over his head.

Tears distilled slowly from his eyes......

He found a job in a computer company in the west of NanJing Road. He started to write some articles to spend his vegetation, and sent to the forum. Many people of the forum entered upon him and took him as a bubble with noise, there would be many messages as soon as he had any article. he read them one by one seriously but never wrote back.

He was resolved to write a long long novel, it would be very very long, nobody could know when it would end up. He often skipped classes all day long, hiding in his room to type his very word with computer until eleven o'clock at night, drinking many water.

When He typed about ten thousand words, he had a stomach. He reposed on his bed, reading the words from the computer screen quietly, he felt all the words were staring at him, placid and quietly too......

Tears came from his eyes again, spilling and dropping and turning to many tear flowers, just like the roses blooming under the yellow light, sunless and wet.

One day, he read a message from the forum:

Ping: I must meet you tonight, the bookstore on the DingGuo Road, eight o'clock.

and the name "Xiao" showed very clearly.

Although the road was not the downtown district, it was very busy in the evening. many people like students were drifting by one or two in the cold winter.

When he came into the bookstore, there were about ten customers inside. The boss of the bookstore wore a woolen scarf around her neck, sitting at the desk, reading. He looked around, he found a girl reading silently beside the bookshelf in the corner, he went straight to her.

"Hello, Xiao."he called.

She looked up.

She is a lovely girl, her hair fell over her shoulders. She withdrew her eyes from the book, and looks like very mixed-up.

Soon, she smiled:"Ping. Thanks for coming."

He took her to the music room for drinking. She stared at him, listening to the melody. A smile rested on her lips with a come-hither look.

"Some of your words were very sad, but I love them all." she said with a smile.

" You must be studying in FuDan university too, yes?" he looked at her.

"Yes, I am in the forth year." she paused for a while, then asked:" How is the girl named Lin in your articles?"

"She had gone abroad." it proved difficult to disguise his anxiety, sad and painful:" went with her parents. I have no any news about her. I know, she wanted to forget me, to forget a man who had a promise with her before ten years."

Xiao didn't answer him. She rested her hands lightly upon his shoulders, then to his face, it seemed to wipe his tears away.

"Thanks." he said," but I haven't tears any more since Lin went abroad before half year."

From then on, Ping often walked and talked with Xiao outside, Xiao's eyes became more and more warm and soft. He knew, he would be in love with her.

Sometimes he thought, Xiao was a very lovely girl with sweetheart, beautiful and gentle, and understanding his heart. For a man whose heart had hurt, all Xiao had was what he needed. Slowly, he started to take her to his heart.

A new leaf was turned in their relationship. Xiao flung herself into him with renewed vigor. "How come a girl can join a boy just so? Same here. Xiao liked to give me her dreams and enjoyed my arms very much. " Ping thought when he hugged Xiao tightly.

After two years of dating, Ping and Xiao had an intention of getting married.

One afternoon on weekend, they went to buy bridal veil in a shop. When they would leave the shop, he suddenly released Xiao's arm and stopped. He said to Xiao:" You go first." then ran out. Xiao was left alone, with no one to look after her.

Xiao was waiting for Ping at home, she waited until he came back nearer twelve o'clock at night. She asked him what had happened, he told nothing but to shake head.

From that day on, Xiao felt there was no tactic understanding between them, it seemed something was between them, and sensed that they were drifting away from each other. She felt that God was not watching over her, for their relationship would end up soon.

At many night with silence, Xiao often looked at his face. "he looked like a baby when he was sleeping." she thought always, then she felt her tears dropped on his face.

Finally, Ping said to Xiao one day:" Ping, I am sorry. You should find another man who will befit you. I am unworthy of such a man."

Her feeling seemed very contained, she knew the day would come true. She had realized they would go to the end of their love soon since the day he left her alone in the shop.

Xiao said nothing but to pick some clothes for leaving.

From that time onwards, Ping had no any news from Xiao.

After two months, Ping was married again, the bride was a girl named Jing. She was a little husky, her whole face was hurt, the red scar discover in air, even there was a naked bone on her left cheek. The celebrators were all stupefied when they saw her, and didn't know what to say.

After seeing guests going away, they were sitting on bed neck and neck.

" Why do you marry me still when you see my face? " she looked at him with soft voice.

" Nothing. " he smiled and held her hands with quiet voice.

" You must tell me." she grew excited.

After some hesitation, he came out:" Ok, I tell you the whole truth."

After a pause he continued his story: " Because, when I saw you in the shop, I felt you looked like my lover Lin when you lowed your head. "

She started at him quietly. suddenly, her face covered with tears......

At that moment, she wanted to tell him at once:

Lin was severely burnt about her face during a specialized experiment before graduation, and affected her voice during the medical treatment.

Lin didn't want to tell him such a news, so went abroad with her parents.

Lin have never forget him in the three years abroad, she was always stuck with him. So she decided to go back, she just wanted to see you behind you silently.

Jing had never thought he would still marry her whose face was hurt badly, and loved her so deep.

Jing didn't know it was right or wrong to tell him the truth: The Jing had changed beyond recognition before him was just the Lin who had a promise before ten years......
