“The Lord is my Shepherd…”
Psalm 23:1, NIV

My Dear Children,
You probably thought you were alone at his graveside today,
but you weren’t.
I am always there beside you.
I know that You don’t realize I’m there, but I want to be wherever
you are to provide comfort to your sad and lonely hearts.

I sat beside you while you trimmed the grass the mower missed
and swept his marker clean.
I saw you adjust the flowers or sometimes you bring in a new bouquet.
I heard your words of longing and I saw your falling tears.

I know you can’t wait to see him again and you tell Me over and over
to “hurry up” and I understand how you feel and I know
you mean no disrespect.
I’m eager to wake him up…for I miss him too.

There are thousands upon thousands of graves just like his and their
families miss them…and I miss them.
I think I have told you this before, but perhaps it bears repeating.

Your son is my little lamb. He’s one of my precious lambs
that I gave up My life for and I would do it again.

Perhaps you remember the story about the Shepherd
who had 100 sheep.
He cared for them from daybreak until sunset. He took care of their sores and pulled out briars and thorns while
always keeping a watchful eye out for predators.

One evening as it was edging toward twilight, he called each
one to follow him back to the sheep pen so he could
close them in safely for the night.
He counted them as they passed by him into the pen.

“Ninety-nine, okay, where’s Blackie. Come, Blackie.
Come here boy,” he calls, but there is no answering bleat.

The sheep knew His voice and they always come.
They sensed that He loved them and would always be faithful
to care for their needs.

So what happened to Blackie?
Perhaps he wandered away for some choice grass
and didn’t hear the shepherd call?

I will have to go back out into the night, the Shepherd says to Himself.
I must find my lost lamb. Yes, yes, I know
I have ninety-nine sheep and perhaps losing one would be okay
for other shepherds, but not Me. I must have all my sheep safely back in the pen.

Back out into the night he goes. He calls and shines his lantern into the
shadows, searching every nook and craggy ledge where
Blackie could have gotten stuck.

Suddenly, he hears a faint little “bah-bah”.
It sounded like it was coming from somewhere down below.
He quickly retraced his steps on the uneven pasture, now searching for a
deep ditch or ravine where Blackie could have fallen.

And there the little guy was, down in a hole with no way to free
his back legs and climb out.
Murmuring softly, the shepherd reached in and tugged Blackie free and put the little guy around his neck.

Blackie’s heart was beating wildly and he kept licking the back of His
master’s neck and everywhere else he could reach, he was so happy to be free.
And his master was delighted to have found his little lost lamb.

See, Children, I will never give up on My sheep; they are My children.
I would have died for just one of My lost children.
You are worth far more than little Blackie and the Shepherd
refused to leave him alone out in the cold.

You see, your son…and he’s My son too… he’s My lamb.
He’s one I died to save and I want him in my heavenly sheep pen.
Eternity wouldn’t be complete without him and I know you want
your entire family together in heaven and so do I.

I have many sheep to gather in and I know you want to help
Me do that great task.
Keep writing, keep learning, keep trusting and keep growing in
our friendship which is so precious to Me.

My Spirit dwells within you. I love you passionately and I am with you always. That is My promise and I always keep My promises.
Your Shepherd,
Jesus

“Jesus told them this story: “If a man has a hundred sheep and one of them gets lost, what will he do? Won’t he leave the ninety-nine others in the wilderness and go in search for the one that is lost until he finds it? And when he has found it, he will joyfully carry it home on his shoulders.” Luke 15:3-5, NLT
